Bev Irwin has recently joined us at Peace Counselling Centre. The first ten years of her career were spent as a Home Economics teacher. After her marriage and the birth of their first child, she left the paid workforce and spent a number of years raising their three children.
In 1990, a comment from Bev about an interest in studying to gain skills to work with families led to an offer for locum work as a Family Support Worker. Recognising a need for further skills to enhance her work meant a return to study to obtain a Grad Dip in Social Sciences (Counselling). This resulted in a new position with the opportunity for Bev to establish a Volunteer Family Support Program and to develop a Counselling Service and she continued to work in these roles until early 2007. During this time she earned her Master of Counselling from QUT. Bev has also been involved in facilitating a number of programs including parenting, budgeting and grief and loss. She is a Clinical Member of the Queensland Counsellors' Association.
Bev is passionate about working with children and adults, both as individuals and as family units. Henry David Thoreau's words "Things do not change, we change!" supports the way Bev works with clients. She enjoys journeying with them as they recognise the need to change, identify what they need to change and then she supports them through the changes so that they can achieve the life they desire.
